The Oranges

Moro

It originated in the area of Lentini and now is widespread on the areas of Catania and Siracusa. This is the first of the red oranges to ripen and it’s possible to savor it starting from the beginning of December till mid-March. It’s of a medium caliber between a sphere to oval form. The peel is orange with a shading of red wine color. The seedless pulp is entirely of a dark red, especially when it’s very mature. The color of the juice is bloody due to the presence of Anthocyanins (natural pigments) in the pulp and in the rind . It is very juicy and has a pleasant taste slightly sour. The following clones are also admitted in the cultivation: Moro comune, Moro di Lentini, Moro nucellare 58-8D-1.
