The variety of Sanguinello has been present for a long time in the citrus areas of the province of Catania and Siracusa. The “Sanguinello moscato” is the most important Italian cultivation of the mid season: in fact the ripening starts in February and the major harvesting period is between March and April. The fruits are of medium caliber with a spherical or oblong form. The peel is of an intense orange with a shading of red. The seedless or almost seedless pulp is orange with many blood colored streaks, very juicy and excellent flavor. The following clones are also admitted in the cultivation: Sanguinello cumune, Sanguinello moscato, Sanguinello moscato nucellare 49-5-3 e 49-5-5, Sanguinello moscato Cuscanà.
